Day 9 - Sull-sur-Loire to Saint Armand-Montrond

80 miler today. Up early and raring to go. The hills are back.

Lovely hotel here. Very impressed. Would like to visit again.

Sat down to breakfast - no change to eating habits.

Was getting organised to start to cycle and found that the key for the padlock holding 3 of the bikes had snapped in the lock.

There's a solution to everything and after a wee look around there was builders next door. Bolt cutters out and within a few seconds the lock was away. What are the chances of that btw? Builders next door working at 0830 with bolt cutters. It must be fate. Below - picture of remains of lock. Less weight for Alan's bike now.

Before we left Sully-sur-Loire we had a walk around the beautiful castle/chateaux - amazing piece of architecture.

Off and running and the roads were straight but undulating. Got into the groove and the morning went very quickly. I love those roads. We even went 4 abreast!

The first chance of a break resulted in our one and only main stop for the day at a wee place called Neuvy. Lunch time and Phil was last in the queue. 4 rolls later and the shop was all out and Phil was not getting any dinner.

Half of my raisen bun for lunch was not enough for Phil, as he found out later.

Whilst in Bourges, we noticed a Decathlon. Phil …. sorry… half a peddle Phil was matching his nickname as his peddles were slowly coming off and it was back into the Pit Lane at Decathlon to get the Formula 1 team back on the case.

Never seen Phil look at his bike so many times on stand.

We kept going and saw signs for Montlucon so we new we were going in the right direction. It was another scoorchio day where the sun factor had to be applied.

As we cycled on, Phil could feel the energy levels coming down but he made it.

And so the place we are staying in St Armand-Montrond. Lovely hotel the Le Noirlac, great food and a beautiful outlook. Another place worth a visit and a great choice for our stop.

Another 82 miles in the bag....  but no time for a quick dip in the pool :-(

Dinner was unusual for most of us and Frank and Phil went for the sweaty sock cheese for sweet. Very nice but a bit unusual with 30 cheeses that didn't look like they had seen the light of day for some time.

And so another day ends and deeper into central France we go - no turning back now. It should be a good one. Looking forward to another 82 miler challenge!
